Turbulent Times, Creative Minds: Erich Neumann and C.G. Jung in Relationship

With the publication of the correspondence between C. G. Jung and Erich Neumann, the major contributions made by Neumann to depth psychology are coming back into focus and assuming new prominence in the field of analytical psychology and beyond. The articles in this volume offer reflections on the creative relationship between Jung and Neumann and possible extensions of their work for the future, signifying the beginning of a Neumann renaissance.

エレル・シャリット博士は、テルアビブのユング派精神分析家。イスラエル分析心理学会の元会長であり、トレーニング・スーパーバイジング・アナリストである。バル・アイラン大学のユング派分析心理療法プログラムの創設者であり、元ディレクター、シャマイ・デビッドソン地域精神保健クリニックの元ディレクターでもある。

一方、マイケル・フォーダムは、ノイマンの子供に関する考え方に批判的で、ノイマンが実際の子供に出会ったことがあるのかどうか疑わしいと述べている（つまり、相反するものを実際に体験したことになる）。また、ユング研究の第一人者であるヴォルフガング・ギゲリッチもノイマンを批判的に論じています。
ノイマンの思想を直接体験するために、筆者は2015年にKibbutz Shefayimで開催されたマルティン・リープシャー編集によるユングとノイマンの書簡集の出版記念会議に参加した。
この会議から生まれた今回の編集本は、ユングとノイマンの並外れた個人的・職業的関係に敬意を表したものであり、ランマーズ、メンデス・フロー、シャリット、スタインの各氏による素晴らしい章も含まれている。その内容は、永遠の悪の問題と結びついた新倫理観（ここではスタインの深い考察が際立っています）、自我と自己の軸、兄弟間の対立、ドイツ系ユダヤ人の経験、エラノス、宗教、臨床問題、芸術など、重要なテーマに及んでいます。ユング家とノイマン家の思い出と寄稿が、この本に特筆すべき個人的なタッチを加えている。

Erel Shalit, PhD, is a Jungian psychoanalyst in Tel Aviv. He is a training and supervising analyst and past president of the Israel Society of Analytical Psychology. He is founder and past director of the Jungian Analytical Psychotherapy Program at Bar Ilan University and past director of the Shamai Davidson Community Mental Health Clinic.
He is the author of several books, including The Cycle of Life: Themes and Tales of the Journey, Requiem: A Tale of Exile and Return, Enemy, Cripple, and Beggar, The Complex: Paths of Transformation from Archetype to Ego, and co-edited, with Nancy Furlotti, The Dream and its Amplification. This reviewer of Turbulent Times, Creative Minds was introduced to the work of ErichNeumann decades ago by his close friend, Gerhard Adler, who thought highly ofhim.
In complete contrast, Michael Fordham was critical of Neumann's thinkingon the child and told this reviewer he doubted that Neumann had everencountered an actual child - therebyenacting an actual experience of the opposites. In addition, the profound Jung thinker,Wolfgang Giegerich, has also written critically on Neumann.
In order toexperience Neumann's thinking at first-hand, this reviewer participated in the2015 conference held at Kibbutz Shefayim to mark the publication of the correspondencebetween Jung and Neumann edited by Martin Liebscher.
The current skillfullyedited book arising from that conference is an homage to the exceptional personal and professional relationshipbetween Jung and Neumann, including in its pages masterly chapters by Lammers,Mendes-Flohr, Shalit and Stein. The book ranges over such vital topics as the NewEthic linked to the eternal problem of evil (Stein's in-depth thinking isoutstanding here), the ego-self axis, sibling rivalry, the German-Jewish experience,Eranos, religion, clinical issues and art. The Jung and Neumann families' memoriesand contributions add noteworthy personal touches to this highly recommended volume.
